Meet Yvonne Hove
Founder of Ladybug
For two and a half decades, many parents in San Francisco have come to rely on the exceptional education and childcare provide by Ladybug Preschool. Since 1989, the founder Yvonne Hove, has been inspiring, educating, and encouraging children ages 2 to 5 years at one of her three schools located in the beautiful Marina District.
Miss Yvonne, as her students call her, was a busy single mother, raising her daughter alone. But, being in the hotel industry, Yvonne spent a great deal of time away from home. “I used to travel a lot and didn’t see my daughter as much as I wanted. On one of my trips, I called her. She was sobbing and telling me how much she missed me. At that moment, I decided that something in my life had to change. Children are my passion and I knew that I wanted to work with them. I needed to create a life where lived my dream and spent more time with my daughter. It took years of hard work and dedication, but I did it!”
Yvonne convinced her boss to reduce her travel schedule so she could spend more time with her daughter. He agreed. While still working fulltime, she volunteered at her daughter’s kindergarten class and went back to school at night. Yvonne received her A.A. in Liberal Arts from College of Marin. Then, completed the requisite Early Childhood Education units at San Francisco State University. In 2009, Yvonne received her Supervisor Permit from the City College of San Francisco.
She has created a beautiful space where children respect one another and say, “Please” and “Thank you.” Yvonne has poured heart heart and soul into Ladybug and as she nears retirement, she is delighted that in the Spring of 2020 her daughter, Kirsten Hove, will be continuing her legacy as the Director of Ladybug School. Kirsten has run and operated her own Family Childcare Center for over a decade and has learned from her mom how to continue to engage the minds and interests of children, their families, and teachers. Child and Family advocacy is a passion of Kirsten’s and she will continue to learn and grow with the support of her community.
We have sent both of our daughters, who are very different, to the program from age 2-3 and truly could not have been happier.Pamela f.
